spicybyte.io

the short version

This site shows you your own IP address and records that you visited. That is its entire purpose, and the front page says so. There are no cookies, no analytics service, no advertising, no tracking across sites, and nothing on either page is fetched from anyone else.

what is recorded

One row per request:

The location and network are looked up offline, from a database file stored on the server. Nothing about you is sent anywhere to do it. The program that serves this page has no network access at all beyond the local socket it answers on — that is enforced by the operating system, not by good intentions.

why

Curiosity, and a private dashboard I look at: visitor counts, countries, networks, and which automated scanners are probing the site. It is a personal site. The data is not sold, shared, or given to anyone, and it is not used to make any decision about you.

how long

Raw IP addresses are erased after 90 days, automatically, every night. The salted ip_hash is kept longer so that repeat visits can still be counted without holding the address itself. The hash is generated with a secret key held only on the server; it is not reversible, though a hash is not the same thing as anonymous, and this notice does not claim otherwise.

where

On a single server in France, rented from OVH, administered by one person. Encrypted backups are kept in OVH object storage. No third party has access to the database.

your rights

Under Québec's Law 25 and the GDPR you may ask what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, and ask for it to be deleted. Write to contact@comercier.me — include the IP address and the approximate date, since that is the only way to find your rows. Deletion within the 90-day window is done by hand on request; after it, the raw address is already gone.

You can also just not visit again, which erases you from the future entirely and is considerably faster.
